Chris Redman released by Falcons; Luke McCown added

After spending all summer tweaking their offense, the Atlanta Falcons are making some final adjustments at the quarterback position.

Longtime veteran Chris Redman was released Tuesday to make room for the signing of journeyman Luke McCown, the team announced.

An odd move on paper, but this one has Dirk Koetter's fingerprints all over it. The Falcons' new offensive coordinator arrived from the Jacksonville Jaguars, for whom he closely worked with McCown over the past three seasons. McCown isn't an exciting pick up, but he's a system fit. Besides, this might have more to do with Dominique Davis, Atlanta's undrafted rookie passer who essentially outplayed Redman in three preseason games.

Redman had been with the Falcons since 2007 and Matt Ryan's backup since 2008, but he turned 35 in July. This might very well be the end.
