The Baltimore Ravens placed injured linebacker Terrell Suggs on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list Monday, meaning that the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year will miss at least six games.

The Ravens announced the move Monday.

Suggs suffered a torn Achilles tendon in April. The linebacker originally had pointed to returning to the field in November, but has since backed away from that goal.

Suggs said he hurt himself while working out, but has been dogged by rumors that he suffered in the injury playing basketball.

By placing Suggs on the PUP list, the Ravens can activate him by their sixth game at the earliest. He then can practice for three weeks before either being placed on the active roster, injured reserve or waived.

The Ravens also placed wide receiver/kick returner David Reed on the PUP list with an injured knee.

Stevie Baggs (leg), Darryl Blackstock (leg), Emanuel Cook (leg) and Ryan McBean (ankle) were all placed on injured reserve.

The moves cut the Ravens' roster down to the required 75 players before Monday's 4 p.m. ET deadline.
