Giants CB Prince Amukamara suffers high ankle sprain

A tumultuous week for New York Giants cornerback Prince Amukamara took a turn for the worse Friday night.

The good news was that X-rays came up negative. The bad news is that the Giants announced Amukamara has a high ankle sprain.

"You see him get carted off and your heart drops," Giants defensive end Justin Tuck told the New York Daily News after the game. "He finally was getting his shot to be a big-time player."

New York already is thin at cornerback with Terrell Thomas banged up. Promising third-round draft pick Jayron Hosley also is injured. And high ankle sprains usually take at least a few weeks to recover form, putting Amukamara's availability for Week 1 in serious doubt.

Perhaps the only positive thing here: The Giants had a ton of injuries in the secondary last preseason, too.
