With just over 10 minutes to play in the second quarter of Friday's 23-17 victory over the Miami Dolphins, Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart exited the field with an apparent left leg injury.
Stewart sustained the injury while hauling in a one-yard pass from Cam Newton with 3:30 to play in the first quarter. After sliding to catch the low throw, Stewart unsuccessfully attempted to return to his feet and avoid a tackle by Dolphins linebacker Jason Trusnik.
In doing so, his left leg was planted awkwardly in the Bank of America Stadium turf, and Stewart limped to the sideline after the play.
The 2008 first-round draft pick out of Oregon signed a five-year, $36.5 million contract extension last weekend, the details of which were compared to other running back contracts on Around the League earlier Friday.
