Andrew Luck of Colts scores on first NFL pass

Welcome to the NFL, Andrew Luck.

On his first pass attempt of the preseason, the No. 1 overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft dumped off a pass to running back Donald Brown, who ran untouched into the end zone for a 63-yard touchdown to give the Indianapolis Colts a 7-0 lead over the visiting St. Louis Rams.

That play was just a preview for what was to come. Luck threw another touchdown pass and finished 10 of 16 for 188 yards with two touchdowns, as the Colts routed the Rams, 38-3.

"Historic beginning!!!!!!!!!!!!! The legend has begun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!", Colts owner (and exclamation point enthusiast) Jim Irsay tweeted after Luck's opening score.

It's only the preseason, and Luck's pass to Brown was behind the line of scrimmage and traveled less than five yards. It was a good start for a quarterback who is tasked with replacing Peyton Manning -- a future Hall of Famer and one of the best ever to play the game. Fun fact: Manning also scored a touchdown on his first NFL preseason pass back in 1998.

We'll continue to wait another few thousand attempts that actually count before putting Luck in Canton, though.
