Bryant McKinnie reportedly has been fined $30,000 by the Baltimore Ravens for missing the start of training camp.
It's up in the air whether or not McKinnie's absence from the start of Ravens camp will cost him his spot on the roster, but not being in Owings Mills, Md., this week will definitely cost him some money.
According to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, the Ravens have fined McKinnie $30,000 for failing to report to training camp on Wednesday. That's the maximum allowable daily fine for an unexcused absence from mandatory training under the 2011 collective bargaining agreement.
Ravens head coach John Harbaugh on Thursday said that a representative for McKinnie reached out to the team to inform them the left tackle is dealing with what was termed as an "issue." Harbaugh declined to delve into specifics, leaving it up to McKinnie to speak on the matter.
Although McKinnie earned $3.3 million last season, and pocketed a $500,000 roster bonus from the Ravens in March, he reportedly is having financial difficulties. McKinnie is currently being sued for $4.5 million over a loan he took out during the lockout. By fining McKinnie the maximum amount, the Ravens appear to be looking to recover some of the $500,000 they paid him four months ago.
