The Washington Redskins appear to be in the market to add a veteran player to their backfield.
Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com reported Thursday the team has held internal talks about signing a running back. Cedric Benson and Ryan Grant reportedly are among the candidates.
The Redskins don't have a clear front-runner at starting tailback as training camp begins. Tim Hightower, Roy Helu and Evan Royster all are in the mix, though Hightower is coming back from surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
"I feel good," Hightower told The Washington Post on Thursday. "I've got work to do, but I feel better. It feels good to finally be out there on the field and I'm not watching. I have confidence. I had confidence when I was laying up in the hospital. But I think it'll get better. It'll get better with time and it'll get better with training camp. I'm not worried about it."
Neither option will petrify a defense, but then again, they wouldn't be sitting on the free-agent pile in late July if that were the case.
