Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch has issued an apology for his Saturday morning arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence.

"I want to apologize to my family, the Seattle Seahawks, the NFL and the 12th Man for the negative attention resulting from my recent actions," Lynch said in a statement posted on the team's website. "This is not the type of community leader I have been over the last two years or the one I'm striving to become. I want to assure everyone that I will work to be better and look forward to a very exciting, and very successful season with the Seattle Seahawks."
Lynch was formally charged with DUI on Wednesday in Alameda County, Calif., but his attorney said there was a "better than 50 percent chance" his client was not drunk during the weekend arrest.
The looming question for the Seahawks -- who inked Lynch to a four-year, $31 million contract in March -- is whether he will face punishment from the NFL. The five-year veteran was suspended in 2009 after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor gun charge.
Robert Turbin and Leon Washington are the main players in a thin backfield behind Lynch. No question about it, this is a headache for Pete Carroll and the Seahawks.
