Are the Miami Dolphins heading for a makeover?
He wasn't kidding around.
|Might a new Dolphins logo for 2013 look similar to the old logo for Dolphin Stadium (above)? The Palm Beach Post reports that the team is discussing a logo and color change, and that the new logo could reflect the old stadium logo.|
A source at league headquarters told Volin that Dolphins officials and the NFL have swapped emails and mock-ups for several weeks. The team has until November to finalize changes for the 2013 campaign.
"We're not talking about changing colors or taking the sun off the helmet," Dolphins CEO Mike Dee told The Post on Thursday. "It's not going to be like when Tampa Bay changed from orange to pewter gray. It's definitely keeping one eye on what's traditional in the logo intact, while keeping one eye on a 21st century version of that."
So what does this mean for the plump, somewhat agitated Dolphin on the current helmet -- the one we've known in various forms since 1966? We don't know for sure, but Volin has seen mock-ups and believes a new design would tilt closer to the old logo for Dolphin Stadium (pictured at right).
Dee called that assumption "inaccurate," but Volin insisted that the mock-ups he's seen hedge closer to this than the current logo.
The Dolphins haven't confirmed a change and aren't giving away hints, but this one feels like it's in the mail.
