Adrian Peterson's lawyer: Viking's arrest unwarranted

Rusty Hardin, the attorney for Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, continued his media tour Wednesday, telling "The Dan Patrick Show" that Houston police had no valid reason to place his client under arrest early last Saturday morning.

Adrian Peterson arrest rundown

In the wake of Adrian Peterson's arrest Saturday, lawyer Rusty Hardin says the star running back's detainment by Houston police was unwarranted. **More ...**

Hardin said he doesn't understand why Peterson was charged with resisting arrest as the department has not yet revealed what crime Peterson had committed to warrant being placed under arrest in the first place

"That's because there wasn't anything to arrest him for, and that goes right to the heart of everything," Hardin told Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, who is pinch-hosting for Patrick. "There was no basis for it. ... He wasn't doing anything to merit an arrest."

Hardin made similar statements to Andrew Siciliano on NFL Network's "NFL Total Access" on Tuesday.

Peterson, a perennial Pro Bowl player who has never been known to be involved in any off-the-field issues, took to Twitter on Sunday to quote Winston Churchill, who said that "A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on." Determined to fight the charge and clear his name, Peterson is looking for a full exoneration, Hardin added.

"This kind of conduct they're suggesting is so totally inconsistent with Adrian's history," Hardin said. "He has been very careful over the years to conduct himself in a way that no one would think he would do something like this.

"He wants everybody to make sure they understand he didn't do this."

UPDATE: Peterson will be in court in Harris County, Texas for his scheduled appearance Friday, Hardin told Jeremy Fowler of the Pioneer Press.
