A troubling offseason continues for the New Orleans Saints.
Linebacker Lawrence Wilson has been suspended for the first game of the season and fined an additional game check for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, a league spokesman confirmed to NFL.com on Friday.
Wilson is allowed to participate in training camp, as well as preseason practices and games, but this won't help his chances to earn a roster spot. He was signed by the team in March and projected as a contributor on special teams.
The Carolina Panthers drafted Wilson in the sixth round of the 2011 draft, but released him following an arrest for misdemeanor possession of marijuana and speeding in November. According to reports, he broke down in tears in front of police, wondering what it would mean to his NFL career.
Our guess: Nothing good.
