Colorado has been ravaged by wildfires this week, leaving two dead and hundreds homeless. The Denver Broncos aren't the first item on people's minds right now, but the team is doing what it can to help.
Garland's grandparents, Hal and Sharon Garland, fled their Colorado Springs home Tuesday as the Waldo Canyon Fire descended on their neighborhood. The couple stayed with Ben outside of Denver, only to learn from aerial photos that their home was destroyed, one of 347 swallowed up in the blaze.
"My grandma is absolutely devastated," Garland told The Denver Post.
Precious family keepsakes were wiped away, along with many of Ben's possessions. It motivated Garland, a graduate of the Air Force Academy, to join his Broncos teammates as part of the relief effort in Fort Collins, where they met with evacuees.
