Jason Pierre-Paul in mold of Reggie White, Canty says

The New York Giants defensive end Chris Canty played with a collection of talented defensive lineman during his first four seasons with the Dallas Cowboys. However, his current team might have the best line in football.

When asked to name the most versatile end in the game today, Canty came clean, saying the Cowboys' DeMarcus Ware has nothing on the Giants' Jason Pierre-Paul.

"To me, it is no question in my mind," Canty told ESPN New York Radio on Tuesday. "JPP's ability to play any position along the defensive front is what makes him tremendously special. He can play the shade, the two-technique, the three-technique ... he can do it all ... anything you want him to do along the defensive front, he can do."

Pressed to find JPP's equal, Canty dialed up the name of a legend.

"There is really nobody in the league right now that you can compare him to," Canty said. "The only person that kind of sticks out where you can compare him to -- and I can't believe I am saying this -- but he reminds me a lot of Reggie White. His ability to play all those different positions and to impact the football game the way he does, he is an unbelievable talent."

The Ware comparison is fair, but Reggie White is heady territory. It's early to toss that name around. The Hall of Fame lineman transformed the Philadelphia Eagles during his time there, and you can argue the Green Bay Packers wouldn't have won Super Bowl XXXI without him. We haven't seen anyone White's equal since, but JPP is an intriguing candidate. We felt he was ranked too low on NFL Network's "Top 100: Players of 2012," especially after what he did for the Giants down the stretch last season. Canty certainly agrees.
