"Man, I almost had him a couple times," Colts cornerback Kevin Thomas said with a laugh Saturday at former USC teammate Terrell Thomas' youth football camp Saturday in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. "I got some PBUs (but) no interceptions on him yet."
Thomas expects Luck, the No. 1 overall pick in this year's draft, to work hard during training camp and throughout the season without worrying about the comparisons that people make between him and the Colts' former quarterback.
"Nobody can duplicate what Peyton Manning did," Thomas said. "Luck is just going to be himself and progress at his own pace. We are expecting great things out of him, but we understand he is a rookie and he is going to have to put in that work."
Thomas missed his entire rookie campaign in 2010 with an injured knee, and he played in nine games, including five starts, during the Colts' 2-14 season in 2011.
Thomas called new Colts coach Chuck Pagano's defense "a lot more aggressive, a lot more man-to-man calls, and it just forces players to make plays." And Thomas isn't letting Luck off the hook, saying he'll intercept one of the rookie's passes soon enough.
"Minicamp is minicamp," Thomas said. "In training camp, it's going down."
