Offseason surgery after his Rookie of the Year season preceded his suspension for using performance enhancing drugs and a down 2010 year. Cushing stayed healthy during a resurgent 2011 campaign, but it sounds like he's struggling again this offseason.

That's the bad news. The good news is that an MRI that was ordered for Cushing's sore knee on Monday apparently came back with positive results.

"He's fine. Everything is fine. We will err on the side of caution here. I don't even know if I'll practice him the rest of the week. He did work out, he just didn't go with the team," coach Gary Kubiak said Tuesday.

It sounds like Cushing won't need surgery, but this is a situation worth monitoring this offseason. We trust Kubiak that Cushing is "fine" but the true test will be in training camp to see if he's on the field every day.
