Rob Gronkowski optimistic about ankle progress

Rob Gronkowski is now a man without hair, but he continues to gain strength in his ankle.

The New England Patriots tight end had his head shaved Sunday at Gillette Stadium to raise money for cancer research.

Gronk brought his unique sense of humor to the proceedings, getting a rise out of the crowd of onlookers by joking (via the Boston Herald), "I thought I was getting a number two."

After he was completely shorn, he remarked, "It looks better than (Tom) Brady's."

(If he's referring to Brady's Bieber or faux-hawk styles, he's absolutely correct.)

Free of a limp, Gronkowski said he's continuing to progress in recover from offseason ankle surgery.

"Just taking it day by day," he said. "Everything is going well, just feeling better every single week."

There's no timetable on Gronkowski's return, though it can safely be assumed we won't see him this week as the Patriots wrap up organized team activities. The team has a mandatory minicamp (June 12-14) before training camp kicks off in late July.

The Herald reported that "no one on the team appears particularly concerned" about Gronkowski's timetable. We take that as a positive sign.
