Brian Dawkins: Andy Reid should be on hot seat

We know that Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid is on the perpetual hot seat. The question Rich Eisen posed to former Eagles great Brian Dawkins on the tastefully named Rich Eisen Podcast: Should Reid be on the hot seat?

"Yes, here's the thing," Dawkins said on this week's podcast. "When you go out and you get some of the pieces that they got, that's telling the fan base something. Even coming into this year ... some of the things they're doing this offseason, that's telling the fan base something. You then have to show ... what are you as a coach?"

We like what the Eagles have done this offseason. They favored continuity over adding too many new pieces. They paid the guys that deserve it. Dawkins seems to agree.

"This is the year to me that says . . . If there was a chance for this team to go far, it should be this year. You should know your team, you should know who can do what," Dawkins said.

Yes, defensive coordinator Juan Castillo is also under the gun. But Castillo is Reid's guy. Hiring and standing by Castillo are two of the boldest decisions Reid has made as a head coach.

If one man goes down, they both will fall.
