Clay Matthews moves to right side for Nick Perry

We noted that Green Bay Packers first-round pick Nick Perry is lining up as a starter at OTAs, but we forgot to mention that Perry has taken Clay Matthews' old spot on the field.

Matthews has moved from left to right outside linebacker to make way for Perry. Matthews played on the right side as a rookie before playing on the left the past two years. The Green Bay Press-Gazette suggested that the Packers will move Matthews around more than ever this season.

"I hope so. That's the plan," Matthews said. "It's all about mismatches and preferable lineups. Whenever we can take advantage of that, playing on the right side, left side, middle, wherever you want me to play, we're all about that, so I hope that's the case."

It's a bit of a misconception that Matthews struggled last year, but he wasn't as explosive as he was in 2010. (He still pressured the quarterback plenty.) Adding Perry to the mix, however, should help free defensive coordinator Dom Capers to move Matthews around.

After taking defenders with their first six picks of the draft, the Packers admitted that the same old plan on defense wasn't going to cut it this year.
