It's a big day for New Orleans Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma. The first step in the appeals process with the NFL begins Wednesday when the league hears the NFL Players Association's grievance. Suspended for the 2012 season, Vilma sounds confident that he can change his outcome.
Big day today, one step in the right directionâ Jonathan Vilma (@JonVilma51) May 16, 2012
That tweet apparently inspired a lot of derogatory responses. Vilma, if nothing else, remains defiant.
I see the haters are up this morning. Wen I win this wat will they say then???â Jonathan Vilma (@JonVilma51) May 16, 2012
What an insane time for the Saints. Sean Payton is banished, but he has an office next to the Stadium and the team is leaving a seat open for him in all meetings and team trips. The supposed owner-in-waiting is on an extended "timeout". Drew Brees remains unsigned. Their defensive leader continues to fight his suspension. An "Us against the world" mentality is developing among the players still on the roster.
We have no clue how the rest of 2012 will go for the Saints, but it will be fascinating to watch. For news value, it will be hard to top the last few months.
