It wasn't immediately clear how Bowers suffered the injury. The Bucs only said it occurred while Bowers was participating in their offseason program.
Bowers tweeted Thursday that he still intends to play football this year.

A source with knowledge of the situation told NFL.com's Steve Wyche that the tear was to Bowers' right Achilles. The 6-feet-6, 280-pound lineman has dealt with knee injuries dating to his college days at Clemson, and he has undergone two surgeries to his left knee.
Bowers, 22, was selected in the second round (No. 51 overall) by the Bucs in the 2011 NFL Draft. He played in all 16 games last season, starting six, and recorded 25 tackles and 1.5 sacks.
