Vernon, Vontae Davis' brother charged in D.C. murder

The younger brother of NFL players Vernon and Vontae Davis is in custody after having been charged with murder in the death of a Colorado man who was visiting the nation's capital.

D.C. police say 19-year-old Michael Davis was charged Wednesday with first-degree murder while armed in the death of 66-year-old Gary Dederichs of Denver. Davis had been previously arrested in connection with two assault cases.

Police took Davis into custody April 26 upon hearing a woman calling for help, WRC-TV reported Thursday.

"I didn't think nothing of him," the woman said, via the television station. "I just turned around, I would say, like a second, and he just struck me with something. All I said was please don't hurt me."

On April 24, police responded to the city's Petworth area for the report of an unconscious person and found a man suffering from head trauma. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A hearing is scheduled Friday for Davis regarding his initial charges.
