Pick a position, any position. The St. Louis Rams probably have a major need there. So would they really consider using the No. 6 overall pick on Alabama running back Trent Richardson when Steven Jackson is already on the roster?
The answer is yes if a pair of recent articles are to be believed.
Article 1: Russ Lande of the Sporting News has sources that tell him the Rams' top choice is Richardson. It's worth noting that Lande is a former scout -- with the Rams.
Article 2: Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch makes the case for Richardson in Thursday's paper. "Don't be shocked -- or even surprised -- if the Rams take Alabama running back Trent Richardson."
"I haven't devalued the running back position," Fisher said. "You're talking to the wrong person. I want as many of them on the roster as you can get."
Don't try to sell Fisher on the argument that they are already set up at running back, either.
"I don't think we can pass on any position at that pick because of our need." (Or lack thereof.)
We agree. Fisher and offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer love the ground-and-pound approach. Jackson isn't in full decline mode yet, but he probably only has a good year or two left. The Rams should concern themselves with taking the best player.Â
Drafting Richardson would give the team an offensive identity it has lacked since Mike Martz left town.Â
