Eagles bring back guard Mathis on five-year, $25.5 million deal

Guard Evan Mathis and the Philadelphia Eagles have agreed on a five-year contract, the latest key player the team has locked up.

Debate: Time for some action!

We're only a few days into free agency, but which teams are dropping the ball early in the process? Our analysts debate. **More ...**

A person familiar with the negotiations says Mathis' deal is worth $25.5 million with $7 million guaranteed. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because terms have not been announced.

The team said it reached agreement with Mathis on Saturday. Mathis, an unrestricted free agent, visited Baltimore on Friday.

Mathis is coming off his best season in his first year with the Eagles. He earned a starting job in training camp and moved into the lineup at left guard just days before the team's first game.

Earlier in the week, the Eagles gave contract extensions to right tackle Todd Herremans and defensive end Trent Cole. Then they signed wide receiver DeSean Jackson to a long-term deal.
