The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported the team parted ways with the seven-year veteran Thursday. Kemoeatu started eight games for the Steelers in 2011, his lowest total since 2007.

Concerns about the Steelers' standing with the salary cap have resulted in the departure of several veterans this offseason, the most noteable being wide receiver Hines Ward, who was notified of his release Wednesday.

NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora reported Monday that the Steelers will release defensive end Aaron Smith. The agent for linebacker James Farrior also expressed his concern that his client could be the next to go.

As of Feb. 6, the Steelers were $22.5 million over the cap, according to NFL.com research. The team had cut about $34 million from the salary cap and created nearly $23.6 million in cap space as of Feb. 15, according to the Tribune Review.
