The San Diego Chargers are expected to release left defensive end Luis Castillo but may consider re-signing him at a lesser salary after he tests free agency, U-T San Diego reported Monday.
Castillo, who fractured his leg in the 2011 regular-season opener and missed the rest of the season, is due a $1 million roster bonus next month and a $3.9 million base salary next season, the newspaper reported.
Castillo, 28, was drafted 28th overall in 2005 and has started 79 games for the Chargers.
The Chargers will also let nose tackles Antonio Garay and Tommie Harris test free agency but would like to keep both, U-T San Diego reported. Garay has started 28 games over the past two seasons, while Harris was a reliable fill-in at tackle and end after he was signed in September.
