He hopes the encore is a new contract.
Cruz entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2010, and as such reportedly made $405,000 in 2011 as part of a three-year rookie contract. Although the salsa-dancing Cruz has signed one contract -- a deal for marketing and endorsements with IMG -- it's a decent bet he's looking for another based on what he did on the field.
"I can't control that stuff," Cruz told NFL Network about his contract situation. "I just have to make sure I have the right people in front of me, have the right support system, the right agent and the right people in place to make those decisions and let them take care of that. I'll take care of everything on the field."
The Giants will also have a decision to make on several key free agents, including fellow receiver Mario Manningham. Cruz, who is scheduled to make $490,000 next season, hopes the contract situation is taken care of sooner rather than later.
"I hope as soon as possible," he said. "I want to remain a Giant for a very long time. Hopefully we can do something this offseason to extend that."
