New York Jets coach Rex Ryan famously promised that his team would win the Super Bowl this season.

But on Saturday, before watching the New York Giants and New England Patriots face off in Super Bowl XLVI, Ryan told NFL Network that he's done making such bold predictions.

"I think I'm out of that prediction game," Ryan said.

Ryan did explain why he had made that now-infamous call.

"What was I supposed to say?" Ryan said. "We had gone to back-to-back championship games. I just wanted to make sure our team knew that, 'Hey, look, guys, we were so close, we're going to win this thing this year,' and I was telling our players that and I was telling the league that. Unfortunately, it never quite worked out that way."

The Jets finished an 8-8 season amid locker-room turmoil.

Ryan also refused to predict the winner of the Super Bowl -- which ultimately turned out to be the Giants.

"If I make a prediction on the Super Bowl, and if that team loses, I'll get blamed for it," Ryan told the Newark Star-Ledger Saturday. "So I'm not picking anything."
