Bears interviewing former NFL QB Van Pelt for vacancy

The Chicago Bears are interviewing Alex Van Pelt for the team's quarterback coach/passing coordinator vacancy, according to a league source.

The Indianapolis Colts, St. Louis Rams and Pittsburgh Steelers have also inquired about Van Pelt, who played in the NFL for 11 seasons, mostly with the Buffalo Bills.

Van Pelt worked as the Buccaneers' quarterbacks coach the past two seasons. Before arriving in Tampa Bay, Van Pelt worked on the Bills' staff -- first as offensive quality control coach, then quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator -- from 2006 to 2009.

The Bears elevated offensive line coach Mike Tice -- a former head coach with the Vikings from 2001 to 2005 -- to offensive coordinator after the team parted with Mike Martz. Between Van Pelt and Tice, the Bears would have coaches in place to handle both facets of their offense.
