The Miami Dolphins officially named Mike Sherman and Kevin Coyle as offensive and defensive coordinators, respectively, on Friday.

NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora first reported the coaches agreed to terms on Friday morning.

"I’m excited that Mike Sherman and Kevin Coyle have decided to accept the positions of offensive and defensive coordinator of the Miami Dolphins, respectively,” said Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin."They are exactly what I am looking for in terms of leadership, character and teaching ability. They are both very passionate about the game of football and the players they coach, and that enthusiasm is evident in the meetings rooms and on the field. They are excellent family men and I’m thrilled they are joining the Dolphins’ football family. I can’t wait to get started to work with them."

Coyle, the Cincinnati Bengals' defensive backs coach, interviewed with the Dolphins on Wednesday. He has coached the Bengals' secondary for nine seasons and worked under defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, who was linked to the Dolphins' head-coaching job before Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin was hired last week.

Sherman, former head coach of the Packers who met with Philbin on Thursday, was a candidate for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' head-coaching job that was filled by Rutgers' Greg Schiano on Thursday.

The Dolphins announced Philbin as the replacement for former head coach Tony Sparano last week. Sherman replaces Brian Daboll, who spent one season running the offense in Miami under Sparano. The Dolphins let former defensive coordinator Mike Nolan leave for the same position with the Atlanta Falcons.
