MOBILE, Ala. -- For Raheem Morris, being "youngry" isn't about decompression.

Sure, Morris could have opted to recharge his battery, maybe take a year off upon being fired as Buccaneers coach earlier this month following a disastrous 4-12 season. But there was no chance that would happen once the Redskins offered him a job to be their defensive backs coach.

"There is no sitting out in my game," Morris, 35, said Tuesday after coaching Senior Bowl practice in his first public appearance with his new team. "I love and enjoy this. I've got plenty of time to relax and sit down and wait. So, right now, I'm going to enjoy it and coach and do what I can do."

You have to figure this feels like one heck of a demotion. Nobody likes going from the executive suite to the mailroom.

Morris, though, chooses to take a different point of view.

"It's about the people that you know, the people that you deal with," Morris said. "With coach (Mike) Shanahan, you can't be with a better program, a better set of guys. I know (offensive coordinator) Kyle Shanahan. I'm very close with those guys, very close with their management and (general manager) Bruce Allen. There's familiarity with the stuff that (defensive coordinator Jim) Haslett has been doing for years. This is a very good defense that has worked for a long time."

As for working his way back to the top, there figures to be plenty of time for that. For now, though, it's all about Morris being the best DBs coach he can be -- as tough as that might be to accept.

"Right now, I just want to do my job," Morris said. "I'll let that stuff play out the way it's supposed to play out. If I get another opportunity, hopefully it'll be a good one, and hopefully I'll be able to take advantage of it."
