A New Jersey assemblyman is apologizing after sending out a lively Giants-themed Facebook post that some viewed as misogynist and homophobic.
While at a party Sunday to watch the Giants defeat the Packers in the NFC divisional playoffs, Jersey City assemblyman Charles Mainor posted the following on his wall: "We are not going to just lay down, we come to play. Who the hell do you think we are the DALLAS COWGIRLS OR THOSE GAYBIRDS FROM PHILLY...NO WE ARE THE NEW YORK GIANTS."
One day later, Mainor was in full-on spin mode after The Jersey Journal received a phone call complaining about the post.
Here's where things get interesting: According to Mainor, he authored only part of the post. He claims a "friend" sat at the computer and punched in the "gaybirds from Philly" line before it went public.

"I have to take full responsibility because it was under my name," Mainor told The Star-Ledger on Monday. "I have no excuse, other than me not looking before he did send the post."
Mainor, a Jersey City police detective representing the 31st Legislative District, hopes his message will not be taken poorly by constituents.
"I have very, very close relatives who are gay," Mainor said. "I have nothing against them. I'm far from that."
Steven Goldstein, chair and CEO of Garden State Equality, a gay-rights group, called Mainor a "good and decent man who made an unfortunate misstep."
The assemblyman has begun the process of patching things up with those who were offended by the post, but it might be some time before Mainor hits the road to watch Big Blue take on the Eagles at the hard-hitting Linc.
