The team announced Maxie's hiring Monday. He replaces Marcus Robertson, who wasn't retained at the end of the season.

Maxie spent four seasons with the Dallas Cowboys coaching defensive backs, and he has 14 seasons of NFL coaching experience, including stops with the Miami Dolphins, Atlanta Falcons, San Francisco 49ers and Carolina Panthers.

As an undrafted safety out of Texas Southern, Maxie signed with the New Orleans Saints in 1985 and went on to have a 13-year NFL career. He played in 153 games, including 104 starts, and recorded 23 interceptions and three touchdowns

Titans coach Mike Munchak said in a team-issued statement that Maxie's diverse experience as a player and a coach stood out.
