Playoff game vs. Saints triggers payday for 49ers QB Smith

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith enjoyed the most productive season of his career under first-year coach Jim Harbaugh, and he'll be rewarded handsomely for leading the team to its first playoff berth in nine years.

According to his contract, Smith will receive a $1 million bonus for Saturday's divisional playoff game against the New Orleans Saints. Smith signed a one-year, $4 million deal with the 49ers this offseason.

Smith, a six-year veteran, had 17 touchdown passes to just five interceptions this season, as the 49ers went 13-3 and earned the No. 2 playoff seed in the NFC.
