» The Philadelphia Eagles were the highest-ranked non-playoff team in this season's poll, finishing at No. 12, one spot ahead of the Denver Broncos, who at No. 13 were the lowest-ranked playoff team.

» The real suspense in Week 17 was at the bottom, where the Indianapolis Colts regained the not-so-coveted No. 32. spot they held for most of the season. The Colts slipped below the No. 31 St. Louis Rams, who had briefly dropped to the bottom spot when Indianapolis won two consecutive games.
