Cowboys' Ryan takes page from Rex's book with Giants looming

Seeing as Rob Ryan has spent his first Cowboys season becoming arguably the most prominent assistant coach of all time, it's no surprise he's talking big about Sunday night's winner-take-all meeting with the Giants.

Last week, Rob's twin brother, Rex, had a seven-egg omelette on his face after his boasts ahead of a matchup against the Giants ended with an ugly Jets loss. Undeterred, Rob sounds very much like a man who soon expects to be wearing XXXL NFC East champions merch.

"They're going down there to watch me become a champion again," Ryan said, referring to family members he's flying in for the game. "That's what they're there for, all of them. Hell, it's a costly endeavor, but I want them to be there when we win the (NFC) East, and I'll probably steal a couple T-shirts and make sure they get them, because that's what we're there for."

That's all well and good, Rob, but what's all this talk about being a champion again? A study of his job history shows that in seven seasons as a defensive coordinator with the Raiders and Browns, no team ever finished with more than five wins.

Perhaps he's referring to the two rings obtained during his run as a linebackers coach with the Patriots in the early aughts. Does that really count?

The Ryan brothers have become the NFL's version of Andy Kauffman: You're not sure whether to laugh along ... or heckle unmercifully.
