Lost in the mix of false promise in the Eagles' "dream" season has been the play of defensive end Jason Babin, who quietly has piled up 18 sacks through Philadelphia's first 14 games.
"All the trials and tribulations make me me," Babin told Yahoo! Sports. "It increases my desire, and my hunger, and that chip on my shoulder. I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason."
Considering his knack for tackling the quarterback, it's incredible that Babin, 30, is in the sixth stop of his NFL career. He played with the Texans (2004-06), Seahawks (2007-08), Chiefs (2008), Eagles (2009), Titans (2010), before landing back with the Eagles after signing a five-year, $28 million deal in the offseason.
With two games to go, Babin has an outside shot of breaking Michael Strahan's 2001 single-season sack record of 22.5. Babin doesn't hide his hope to get into the history books.
"I think I'd be insane if I said I didn't want it," Babin said of the record. "But is it what I'm thinking about 24/7? No. That's not how I go about my business. Whatever happens on Sunday happens. I'm going to play my hardest."
