The Atlanta Falcons held out a number of starters from Tuesday's practice for a variety of reasons. The most notable on the list were running back Michael Turner, linebacker Stephen Nicholas and cornerback Brent Grimes.
Turner didn't practice for the second straight day Tuesday because of a lingering groin issue that has limited his practice time in recent weeks. Turner, however, has yet to miss a game this season.
Grimes (knee) worked out on the side with the trainers during Tuesday's practice, but Smith said it's doubtful he'll be ready to play against the Jaguars. Most likely, Grimes will return on Dec. 26 against the New Orleans Saints.
Nicholas (quadriceps) was limited in practice on Tuesday and Smith said a determination would be made on his status as the game gets closer.
Defensive end John Abraham, tight end Tony Gonzalez and center Todd McClure did not practice for non-injury related reasons, while right tackle Tyson Clabo was listed as being sick.
