Redskins land backfield depth with ex-Cowboys RB Choice

It didn't take long for Tashard Choice to find a new job.

The Washington Redskins claimed the running back off waivers Monday from the Dallas Cowboys, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

The Redskins later confirmed the move and said rookie cornerback Brandyn Thompson had been waived to make roster room.

Choice, a fourth-round pick of the Cowboys in the 2008 NFL Draft, fell out of favor with the team and was released Saturday, one week after he suffered a shoulder injury. Choice averaged 2.7 yards on 28 carries without any touchdowns for Dallas this season, and he also lost two fumbles.

Choice could see opportunities with the Redskins, who lost starter Tim Hightower to a season-ending left knee injury. The Redskins relied on Ryan Torain, without much success, in Sunday's 23-0 loss to the Buffalo Bills, and they also have rookie Roy Helu.

Choice could face his former team Nov. 20, when the Cowboys and Redskins meet at FedEx Field.
