Another day. Another drama for the Jets.
Darrelle Revis was Mike Francesa's guest on WFAN-AM in New York on Friday, and it was a conversation that opened cordially before nosediving into chaos.
Francesa playfully prodded the All-Pro cornerback during the phone interview about interfering with Dolphins wideout Brandon Marshall just before Revis' 100-yard interception return for a touchdown in Monday's 24-6 win over Miami.
"You did mug him on that play when you got the pick for the touchdown, as you know," Francesa said.
Revis wouldn't acknowledge any illegal contact with Marshall, saying no flag was thrown.Â
Francesa wouldn't let it go, and things spiraled from there.
"Do you know football or do you know how to ask questions and interview people?" Revis asked Francesa.Â
"There's a number of things that go on -- on that field -- that you have no clue, but you know football,"Â Revis prodded.
Things then turned bizarre as Jets spokesman Jared Winley cut into the conversation, urging Revis to hang up.Â
Francesa asked Winley to identify himself, and then Revis shot back: "This is why no one wants to get interviewed by you."
Revis then ended the call, and the interview.
Winley later issued a statement.
"In my judgment, given the tone of the interview, I should have asked Mike to move on to another topic, instead of instructing Darrelle to hang up the phone," he wrote. "That was an error on my part. I've called Mike's producer and I apologized."
The radio station also issued a statement saying that Francesa accepted the apology.
Francesa opened the call by labeling Revis as "the only Jet who talks to me these days, the only Jet who likes me."
That number might be down to zero for Mr. Francesa.
