Shanny makes the switch: Beck in, Grossman out for 'Skins

The Washington Redskins are making a switch at quarterback.

Coach Mike Shanahan told his quarterbacks Wednesday morning that John Beck will start Sunday on the road against the Carolina Panthers.

It ends a stretch of five straight starts this season for veteran Rex Grossman, who led the Redskins to a 3-2 record. Grossman threw six touchdowns and five interceptions in Washington's first four games of the season, but he had four picks in Sunday's 20-13 loss to the Eagles.

Shanahan did not reveal his decision to any of his coaches or players until Wednesday morning. Only his son, offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, was aware of the final decision before the quarterbacks were called in.

The Redskins held an 8 a.m. ET team meeting and the players are now aware that Beck will receive starting reps at practice beginning Wednesday.
