Smart man, that Adrian Peterson.
We say that because, a few years before the star running back received his $100 million contract extension from the Minnesota Vikings, he took out an insurance policy on himself, he told the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
This isn't just any insurance policy, either. It's worth between $15 million and $20 million.
All Peterson must do is continue his monthly payments, which he estimates will total roughly $100,000 over the life of the policy, and it will pay out in the event of a career-ending injury.
"It's much more expensive than car insurance," Peterson said Friday. "But I felt it was important to be protected."
Peterson's new contract guarantees him $36 million, so forking out a hundred grand for insurance can't be that difficult. More than that, it's ridiculously smart for Peterson to keep the policy, considering the pounding he takes each week.
We don't ever want Peterson to suffer a career-ending injury, but if he ever does, at least we know he's covered.
