Carter finally backtracks from 'elite' diss of Lions WR Johnson

Cris Carter has officially said "Uncle" in his stance on Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson.

It's been nearly two months and four regular-season games since Carter said Johnson was an elite wide receiver only in video games. In that time, Johnson has hauled in eight touchdown passes, tying Carter's own NFL record for consecutive games with at least two TD receptions.

Carter's opinion has looked more and more misguided as Johnson as cemented his spot as the game's best wideout. Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford even mocked Carter in a tweet last week, proving the commentary had been a talking point in Detroit's locker room.

On Monday morning, Carter officially backtracked.

"Right now, Calvin Johnson -- there's a king in every crowd, and he's the king of the National Football League as far as wide receivers," Carter said on ESPN Radio via ProFootballTalk.com.

There you go, Cris. That wasn't so hard, was it?

We can imagine this has all been a very unpleasant situation for Carter -- the former Vikings great and current ESPN analyst. But when there's a camera and live mic attached to your person, it's best to fully consider thoughts before speaking. Johnson was a beast before this season, now he's downright scary.

Next up on the mea culpa list? Let's go with the Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, who does an awful lot of talking for a guy that isn't even the boss of his own coaching staff. Ryan said prior to Detroit's comeback win over the Cowboys that Dez Bryant and Miles Austinwere both superior to Johnson.

After Megatron lit up Ryan's defense for two touchdowns, including the game winner, we'd love to know: What do you think now, big guy?
