It has been a week since the Jacksonville Jaguarsreleased David Garrard, and while the quarterback wants to play again, he isn't a rush to sign with another team to serve as a Band-Aid.
"We're not interested in being a temporary fix," Garrard's agent, Albert Irby, told The Florida Times-Union on Monday. "Dave wants to go somewhere where eventually he can help the team win a championship. Although there are some temporary jobs out there, it's not that we're saying absolutely no. We would rather just go to one more organization and call it a day."
The Jaguars, who have never had a quarterback throw 30 touchdown passes in a season, had seen enough of Garrard to move on, going with career backup Luke McCown. It's hard to imagine what role Garrard envisions playing for another team at this stage in the game, but The Sacramento Bee reported Monday that as many as five franchises had contacted Irby.
Garrard whittled that list of candidates to two over the weekend before a third team expressed interest Monday.
One potential suitor is the Indianapolis Colts, whose fans are crying out for someone like Garrard or Carson Palmer to come to the rescue of their Peyton Manning-less sinking ship. There's no indication that Indianapolis is making a push for Garrard, who's 3-8 in starts against the Colts.
