Buffalo Bills backup strong safety Jon Corto has signed a contract extension, the team announced Friday.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed by the Bills.
The move prevents the third-year player from becoming a restricted free agent.
Corto, 26, appeared in 11 games last season after opening the year on the physically-unable-to-perform list following surgery in July on a broken left wrist.
The 6-foot-1, 220-pound Corto originally joined the Bills as an undrafted free agent out of Sacred Heart in 2007 and has played in 43 games, posting 22 tackles on special teams.
He is a native of Orchard Park, N.Y., the location of the Bills' Ralph Wilson Stadium.
