Seahawks DBs coach Gray accepts assistant job at Texas

Seahawks defensive backs coach Jerry Gray is returning to his alma mater, becoming the third position coach to leave Seattle for college football since its season ended Saturday.

Gray was hired as assistant head coach and defensive backs at the University of Texas, Longhorns coach Mack Brown announced Monday. Gray is the third former Texas star on the staff, joining co-offensive coordinator Major Applewhite and defensive ends coach Oscar Giles.

Gray, a defensive back for Texas from 1981 to 1984, was a two-time college All-American who played nine seasons for the Los Angeles Rams, Houston Oilers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He has coached in the NFL for the Tennessee Titans, Buffalo Bills and Washington Redskins.

Seahawks defensive line coach Dan Quinn accepted the defensive coordinator position at the University of Florida, and quarterbacks coach Jedd Fisch will be the quarterbacks coach/offensive coordinator at the University of Miami.
