Report: Eagles' Hobbs out for season due to injured disc in neck

Philadelphia Eagles defensive back Ellis Hobbs, who left the field on a stretcher with a neck injury in the team's 27-17 win over the New York Giants on Sunday, will miss the remainder of the season, according to CSNPhilly.com, citing a league source.

Hobbs, who took a hit to the helmet on the second-half kickoff return, underwent an MRI exam Monday morning.

Eagles coach Andy Reid could not confirm the report that Hobbs was done for the season. But he did say Hobbs, who is also a kick returner, would not play Sunday when the Eagles (7-3) meet the Bears (7-3) in Chicago.

"He does have a disc injury in there -- not the same disc that he had before," Reid said, referring to a separate disc injury that ended Hobbs' 2009 season. "We're just going to take our time and further evaluate it and see how he does."

Hobbs wanted to get up and leave the field on his own, but Reid wouldn't let him. NBC reported that Hobbs walked without assistance out of the Eagles' X-ray room wearing a neck brace. X-rays came back negative.

"He was upset because he wanted to get up and go," Reid said after the game. "Sometimes that happens in those situations. I told him to stay down there and trust the guys that were working with him. I said, 'Let's just make sure things are OK, and let's not do anything stupid here.'"

Hobbs, has 16 tackles and an interception in his sixth season, his second with the Eagles.

"I love that kid, he is a tough, tough, tough guy," Reid said Monday. "That was hard to watch yesterday, I'm just hoping for the best for him."

Defensive end Juqua Parker suffered a hip flexor strain Sunday and will be classified as day-to-day. Parker originally injured his hip last Monday in the win over Washington and missed two days of practice last week.

"He's pretty tender today," Reid said. "We'll just have to see."

Cornerback Asante Samuel left the Giants game with an MCL strain in his knee. Reid said he should be OK, though.
