Dolphins cut LB Carpenter, former Cowboys first-round pick

The Dolphins cut linebacker Bobby Carpenter, a former first-round draft pick of the Dallas Cowboys, on Monday after he committed a series of special teams errors in Sunday's victory at Green Bay, *The Miami Herald* reported.

Carpenter also had played mostly on passing downs in the Dolphins' defense while starter Channing Crowder was injured.

On Sunday, the Packers' Quinn Johnson easily beat Carpenter at the line of scrimmage and got a hand on Brandon Fields' punt that fluttered 29 yards. It was the third consecutive game in which a Dolphins punt had been blocked or partially blocked, and two of those were Carpenter's fault.

The Dolphins replaced Carpenter with fullback Deon Anderson, who was released by the Cowboys in September after sustaining a torn meniscus.
