Packers reach four-year deal with third-rounder Burnett

The Green Bay Packers have agreed to a four-year contract with their third-round draft pick, safety Morgan Burnett, a source with knowledge of the situation said Friday.

Financial terms weren't immediately available.

Burnett worked at strong safety during offseason drills, opposite Pro Bowl pick Nick Collins, and was impressive enough that he is expected to push starter Atari Bigby for playing time. The 6-foot-1, 210-pounder from Georgia Tech was considered one of the top defensive backs in the country heading into the 2009 season, but he was inconsistent in coverage, leading to his slide in April's NFL draft.

The Packers' plans for Burnett in the 3-4 scheme could be to use his vast skill set more appropriately, which is why there are fairly high expectations of him to make an impact as a rookie.
