SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Chargers say Pro Bowl wide receiver Vincent Jackson has been suspended by the NFL for the first three games of the 2010 season for violating the league's substance abuse policy, confirming a story that was reported on NFL.com on July 1.

Jackson pleaded guilty in February to his second DUI since 2006.

The suspension could be moot. Jackson has refused to sign his tender as a restricted free agent and could sit out the first 10 games of the season.

Jackson is eligible to participate in all preseason practices and games.

Chargers General Manager A.J. Smith issued the following statement: “Obviously we’re disappointed. Vincent made a mistake and now must deal with the consequences. It’s unfortunate, but we’ll deal with it and move on.”
