Former Raiders WR Porter receives tryout with Redskins

Veteran Jerry Porter is among the wide receivers who tried out for the Washington Redskins at their minicamp this week, a league source said Sunday.

Career Statistics
Receptions: 295

Yards: 4,120

Average: 14.0

TDs: 31

Porter, a former star with the Oakland Raiders, is a Washington-area native. He hasn't been productive for several seasons and didn't play in 2009 after signing a big contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2008.

Porter has had a checkered career, but the Redskins are looking for offensive weapons. Marques Hagans, a fifth-round pick of the St. Louis Rams in 2006 and Roydell Williams, a fourth-round pick of the Tennessee Titans in 2005, also were among the veteran receivers who participated in the camp while trying to land a contract.

Porter's best season came in 2004, when he caught 64 passes for 998 yards and scored nine touchdowns. In 2008, Porter's only season in Jacksonville, he had just 11 catches for 181 yards and one touchdown.
